Keota's run ends in Round 2 of postseason

NEW LONDON — Year 1 of Sky Hahn’s tenure as head volleyball coach at Keota High School has been a rollercoaster ride. The Eagles started 2019 off with nine straight losses before finally capturing their first win on Sept. 23. Since that win, the course of the entire season has changed — with the Eagles securing four more wins, including a first-round regional victory over Tri-County. The ride finally stopped on Oct. 28, however, in New London, with the Tigers taking a straight-sets victory, 25-9, 25-6, and 25-13.

New London controlled the match from the opening serve. The home team held leads in Set No. 1 of 6-3, 10-4, 14-5, and 22-7 before closing out the first set, 25-9.

The Tigers rained down a barrage of hard hits on the Keota defense, as evidenced by their 31-14 advantage in kills for the evening. New London continually put shots where the Eagles weren’t.

The 28-8 Tigers showed their winning pedigree in the second set, going on a run of 15 unanswered points, extending the score from 10-6 to 25-6. It was a tough night for Keota, but Coach Hahn recognizes how much her team has grown and improved over such a short time.
