Keota boys downed in shootout
Most nights, scoring 70 points would guarantee a win but that wasn’t the case on February 1 when they lost to Albia 91-70 in a delayed Homecoming game. Keota remained in the game through the first half but a strong second half by the Demons proved to be the difference.
JD Stout got his night rolling and carried the Eagles through the first quarter with 15 points, nailing three triples and constantly attacking the hoop and getting to the free throw line. As good as Stout’s line was, Albia topped him by playing the Eagles’ game and getting some fast break opportunities. Keota found themselves down 26-19 at the end of the first quarter in what already seemed like it’d be a shootout.
Keota closed the lead as both teams remained hot from the field but still couldn’t get over the hump. The Demons started to execute a double-team on JD, but he continued to find his way to the hoop with his aggressive play. He added another nine points in the second quarter and the Eagles went into the half down 48-39 but still had hope they could pull off a comeback.
