River Products Company Makes Large Donation To Keota Pool Fund

KEOTA- The Keota Pool Advocates received an amazing boost to its fundraising efforts when River Products Company, with corporate offices in Iowa City, made a $50,000 dollar contribution of cash and materials to the anticipated pool to be built in Keota. River Products has been in business for 98 years with quarries in many locations in southeast Iowa. Their quarries provide high quality limestone, sand and gravel. The company has been very supportive of the Keota Community over the years with donations to the school and various organizations and groups.  This donation was made to honor the memory of Mick and Jaynane Lillig who resided in Keota until they moved to Iowa City in 1994. Mick was a member of the graduating class of 1959 and Jayne the class of 1961. Mick worked for River Products for 41 years, serving as board member, director, vice-president and co-owner. Their only son, Christopher, was an avid cyclist and raced competitively. He was killed by a drunk driver in 1996.
The overall progress of the fundraising is very promising as we pursue the goal of $200,000 to decrease the amount of bond funding that will be needed. Currently $116,000 of tax deductible pledges has been obtained with more coming in daily. In addition to the fundraising and pledges, we anticipate a large sum to be remitted utilizing grants. This pool will not cost 1.18 million dollars. Just because we vote to allow that much does not mean that we are required to spend that much. The pool committee recently met with the proposed contractor and was able to reduce the estimated cost by several thousand dollars. We continue with plans for fundraising in order to decrease the taxpayer burden by as much as possible. This will be a good investment for our community and we urge you to vote yes on November 5th.
