Lady Eagles use Charity Stripe to beat Tigers

As has been the case most of the season, the Keota girls’ basketball team had a goal of getting to the free throw line when they hosted Iowa Valley on January 25. They did that and then some, shooting 43 total attempts from the charity stripe and made 31 of them in their 49-39 win.

Keota trailed 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, then surged ahead with a 12-point second quarter while the defense held the Tigers scoreless. That quarter would play a big factor in the end with Iowa Valley matching Keota for 11 points in the third quarter and out-scoring the Lady Eagles 19-18 in the fourth quarter. Keota had 20 points at the half compared to Iowa Valley’s nine with the second half leading to higher totals with the Tigers winning the half 30-29 but the Lady Eagles winning the game 49-39.

Addison Sprouse led the way with 21 points, converting 15-18 from the FT line, to go with six rebounds, one assist and one steal. Paige Thompson had a big game with 16 points, 11-16 from the FT line, and pulled down 10 rebounds, had three blocks and one assist. Jill Schulte and Sky Weber combined for the final 12 points, making five of seven FT opportunities to go with six rebounds and one steal.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Belle Plaine on January 29 and will finish out the week by hosting Albia on February 1.
