Lady Eagles avoid shutout against HLV

One highlight for the Lady Eagles in their game at HLV on June 13 was a sliding triple by Jill Schulte in the third inning. She drove in the lone run for Keota as they took a 1-13 loss.

The Lady Eagles took a hard loss to HLV when the two met up on June 13. After giving up some runs early in the game, Keota settled down and gave themselves a chance to avoid a shortened game by posting a run in the third. That run was matched by HLV in the bottom of the third to end the game at a score of 1-13.

HLV scored all but one of their runs in the first inning as Mikayla Beatty got roughed up on the mound for the Lady Eagles. Two runs scored before she recorded her lone strikeout. After some more runs were plated, the inning ended with a groundout followed by an infield pop out.

Sky Weber came in to pitch in the second inning and made quick work to keep HLV from adding onto their lead. She did allow one double, but the runner would be stranded there after a flyout to the outfield and a short pop fly.

The Lady Eagles got one back in the top of the third which began with a single from the bat of Taylor Kindred. A strikeout from Paige Thompson advanced Kindred to second and put her in scoring position. Jenna Jaeger wound up striking out and Keota was down to one out to get the necessary run to extend the game.

It was up to Jill Schulte, one of the lone veterans on the team, to either get on base and extend the inning or drive in the run. She did both, with a lined shot that reached the fence, easily scoring Kindred and sending Schulte to third with a sliding triple. The inning ended after Jaime Schulte struck out, stranding Jill at third.

HLV would get that run back in the bottom of the third to end the game with the score of 1-13.

    Lady Eagle leaders: Jill Schulte/Taylor Kindred – 1 hit, Taylor Kindred – 1 run, Jill Schulte – 1 RBI, Mikayla Beatty – 1 K

The Lady Eagles ended their week off by hosting North Mahaska on June 15 and then played at Belle Plaine on June 18.
