Keota seniors run final conference meet

Turner Klein finished in ninth place to wrap up his final conference meet as an Eagle on October 12.

For Laurie Amos and Turner Klein it's been a long journey, running in numerous cross country meets over the years for the Eagles. They each ran their final conference meet when Keota traveled to Colfax-Mingo on October 12.

Amos was the lone girl in the varsity race for Keota, finishing in 31st with a time of 26:39.0. On the boy's side, Klein notched another top-10 finish in his career. He finished in ninth place with a time of 19:12.0.

"We wanted to race better than we did there earlier this season," Eagles coach Tanner McClenahan said. "We wanted to go out and compete in a conference championship environment. It can be a different experience from most of the other meets in the year, the kids handled it well."

While Klein was running in his last conference meet, Jayden Lawson was running in his first at the varsity level. Lawson finished in 32nd place, clocking in at 21:42.7.

"He's improved a lot this year," McClenahan said. "The biggest thing has been an increase in confidence with each practice, workout and competition."

Amos and Klein will have one more meet to prove themselves, hoping to make it to the State meet. The qualifying meet will take place October 19 at Wildwood Park in Ottumwa.

"We're going to set some goals and see if we can get back to State," McClenahan said.
