Keota hoping to rebound in District play

Despite losing both games to end the regular season, Colton Clarahan still pitched some doninant innings, combining for five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings pitched against Lone Tree and Highland.

The Keota Eagles entered the final week of the regular season on a five-game winning streak but were unable to keep it going as they dropped the final two games in close decisions. The streak ended when Keota faced Lone Tree and lost 6-7 on July 3 followed by a 3-6 loss to Highland on July 5.

Keota was in a battle the whole game when they played at Lone Tree but couldn’t make the late comeback needed. After falling behind 1-2 early in the game, the Eagles were able to score four runs in the third inning to retake the lead. Lone Tree chipped away and took the lead back late.

The Eagles had to score two runs in the top of the seventh to keep the game going and came up just shy by scoring a single run. Lone Tree was limited to four hits in the seven innings of play, but walks posed more of an issue for Keota with the four pitchers walking 10 batters.

Eagle leaders: Cole Brenneman – 2 hits, Carson Sprouse – 2 runs, Colton Clarahan – 2 RBIs, Austin Waterhouse – 2 SB, Austin Waterhouse/Colton Clarahan – 2 Ks

Highland scored four runs in the first couple innings to put Keota in a hole, but the defense shut them down until the fifth when they tacked on two more runs. Keota cut into the deficit by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth but that’s where the score ended at 3-6.

    Eagle leaders: Justin Moeller/Austin Waterhouse/Jack Eakins/Riley Conrad – 1 hit, Jack Eakins/Cole Brenneman/Riley Conrad – 1 run, JD Stout/Colton Clarahan – 1 RBI, Austin Waterhouse – 4 Ks

The Eagles tried to get back to their winning ways when they went down to Eldon on July 10 to play against Iowa Mennonite.
