Keota considers swimming pool bond issue

Keota residents could soon have a new swimming pool, if plans stay on track. At the August 5 City Council meeting, the Keota City Council discussed the possibility of having a pool bond issue placed on the ballot this November. Keota’s City Pool closed in 2017, due to the condition of the pool at that time.

“There was lots of crumbling concrete in the bottom of the pool,” City Clerk Tomisha Hammes said.

Hammes added that other areas of the pool, including sidewalks and other infrastructure were also failing, causing it to be unsafe for residents to use. Since that time, city leaders have discussed their options and formed a pool committee. Hammes said that the committee received an informal estimate for a new pool of $990,000.

“That is not official. It is just an estimate,” Hammes said.
