Jan. 27 - Keota 60, BGM 57


BGM – A trio of Eagles combined to score 53 of Keota’s 60 points on the way to a nail-biting 60-57 win this past Monday, Jan. 27 at BGM High School.

Senior J.D. Stout led the team with 23 points, followed by Carson Sprouse with 17 points, and Luke Hammen with 13. Points from the free throw line might have decided this game for Keota, as the Eagles connected on 19 of their 23 free-throw attempts. BGM shot just seven total free throws, making four of them.

The Eagles actually trailed by three points heading to the fourth, but a 20-14 advantage in the final period clinched the win for Dan Stout’s club.

Jan. 28 - Belle Plaine 72, Keota 66


BELLE PLAINE – It took an overtime period to decide the game between Belle Plaine and Keota this past Tuesday, Jan. 28 in BP, but it was ultimately the Plainsmen who handed the Eagles their third loss of the year, 72-66.

Scorers must have short memories, and Keota fans can only hope that J.D. Stout and Luke Hammen can forget about this one. The duo took 46 shots; they only made 10 of them, combining for 29 points in the loss. Carson Sprouse led the team with 19 points, but his shooting efficiency wasn’t much better, as he connected on 6-of-17 field goals.

Keota’s 23-of-81 shooting night set a new season low for field goal percentage. The Eagles made just 28.3 percent of their shots.

After the team’s tied at 54 at the end of regulation, BP outscored Keota 18-12 in the final period to get the victory.

Jan. 30 - Keota 66, HLV 27


KEOTA – Dan Stout’s Eagles shook off a heartbreaking loss to Belle Plaine on Tuesday night with a thumping of HLV on Jan. 30, beating the Warriors, 66-27.

J.D. Stout returned to his usual playmaking form, scoring 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting, canning five 3-pointers. He also came away with five rebounds.

Wyatt Sieren had a rare scoring outburst, notching 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. He also blocked three shots.

Keota took a commanding 23-0 lead into the second quarter. They outscored HLV 43-27 down the stretch to solidify the win. For the game, the Eagles connected on 10 3-pointers, five of which belonged to Stout, two to Luke Hammen, and Tyler Waterhouse, Carson Sprouse, and Bryce Greiner each made one.

Jan. 27 - BGM 67, Keota 17


BGM – It was a struggle scoring the ball for the Keota girls this past Monday at BGM, as the Eagles left BGM with a 67-17 loss.

The Lady Bears put it on Keota early, outscoring the Eagles 20-0 in Quarter No. 1 and following that up with a 20-6 advantage in the second quarter. Keota couldn’t get much of anything going offensively, shooting 6-of-29 from the field.

Only three Eagles found the scoring column for Jeff Sprouse’s squad: Bailey Sieren, Macie McDonald, and Sky Weber. Keota failed to score double-digit points in any quarter in this matchup.

Jan. 28 - Belle Plaine 60, Keota 24


BELLE PLAINE – The offensive woes continued for the Keota girls this past Tuesday, Jan. 28, as the visiting Eagles left Belle Plaine with a 36-point loss at the hands of the Belle Plaine Lady Plainsmen, 60-24.

Bailey Sieren led the way for Keota, scoring 12 points. Seven of her 12 points came from the charity stripe. Sky Weber was next in line with six points for Keota. Macie McDonald (four points) and Taylor Kindred (two points) also found the scoring column.

Belle Plaine tallied 52 points in the first three quarters compared to Keota’s 20. BP also compiled 16 steals in the game.

Jan. 30 - HLV 40, Keota 38


KEOTA – Three different Eagles notched double-digit points for Jeff Sprouse’s team in a narrow 40-38 loss to HLV this past Thursday, Jan. 30.

Bailey Sieren had her second consecutive 12-point outing for Keota, followed by Taylor Kindred with 11, and Sky Weber with 10. The Eagles shot fairly well in this one, making 33 percent of their field goals and 3-pointers. However, the game was likely lost at the free throw line for Keota, as they made only 4-of-12 freebies.

HLV held an 18-13 advantage at halftime. Keota then used an 11-4 stretch in the third quarter to take a 24-22 lead to the fourth. The Warriors scored 18 fourth-quarter points, compared to the Eagles 13, to sneak away with the win.
