Keokuk Supes Discuss Recycling

The Keokuk County Recycling Facility will soon be under new ownership.

Changes in recycling in Keokuk County was addressed at Monday’s county supervisor meeting.

Keokuk County made the switch to Cox Sanitation from Waste Management a few months ago. Since then there have been issues with citizens of Sigourney who are bringing recycling to the new location.

“The reason we are here today is that we had a guy from Jefferson County and one from North English who cane here to dump for free,” said Supervisor chair Mike Hadley. “We have to make this work, but we can’t go outside our permit.”

Keokuk County inked an agreement with Cox Sanitation at the end of June to provide operational services of the Keokuk County Recycling Center. Under that agreement, Keokuk County pays Cox Sanitation $5,800 per month to operate the facility.
