Deck the halls of Keota

Santa is keeping watch over the Cowboy Tree at the Jane Denny home until Christmas comes.

If you are not in the holiday spirit before December 1, a trip to Keota for the Tour of Homes might just be the ‘Christmas bug’ infection required. Five places have been chosen for the tour with a wide variety waiting at each location. The sneak peek of the SS Peter and Paul Clear Creek Church and the home of Scott and Cherie Westendorf is still to come in next week’s issue. However, this week’s preview reveals enough variety in itself.

First, the home of Seth and Jacayla Milledge, located at 2034 Keokuk Washington Road. Jacayla admitted that she and her husband could not take credit for remodeling the home, as the previous owner, Cindy Detweiler, was the one who had originally restored the property from a crumbling state.

She said part of her reason for agreeing to participate in the tour is to satisfy the curiosity of many of those who have commented that they would love to see the refurbished home sometime. Jacayla has another reason for participating that is more personal.

“My grandma always decorated really elaborately for Christmas, with a tree in every room with a different theme, so I feel decorating for Christmas is something special,” Jacayla said.
