Candidate listing finalized; Schroeder not running again

John Schroeder

There will be one retirement in this year’s county government, according to a candidate
listing released by the Keokuk County Attorney’s Office. Longtime County Attorney John
Schroeder did not file to run for another term. Schroeder has served as County Attorney since
1982. Local attorney Amber Thompson filed to run in Schroeder’s place as a Republican.
Thompson most recently was serving as magistrate judge for Mahaska County, and has also
been in private practice in Sigourney, and Oskaloosa.
In other candidate filings, County Recorder Dawn T. Goldman will not face any
interparty challenges this year. Goldman was the only Republican to file. She has served as
County Recorder since she was appointed to the position shortly after the 2014 elections. She
was re-elected to fill out the rest of the term in 2016 and is now running for a full term.
Also running unopposed is Christine Edmundson for County Treasurer. Edmundson won
the 2014 Treasurer election, running unopposed. She was the only Republican to file for the
position this year as well.
