Bennett sworn in during July meeting

Board President Bill Kindred administers oath to Gina Bennett.

Gina Bennett was sworn in as school board secretary during the July school board meeting. This position became available due to the resignation of Cherie Westendorf as of June 30.

Jim Tinnes moved to appoint Bennett, with Aaron Sieren seconding. The motion carried 5-0.

President Bill Kindred administered the oath of office to Bennett.

Bennett is a graduate of Keota Community Schools.  She then attended Central College and MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL before returning home to the family farm and getting married to her husband Kelly.

“I started working for Keota Schools in 1994 as a teachers aide in the high school when Leland Roegner was principal.  I primarily did copying and typing for the teachers and some study halls and office work.  Back then the teachers didn't have computers at home so I typed up their worksheets and tests for them,” Bennett stated.

After 19 years working in the private sector , the opportunity came for a secretary in the central office at Keota.

“I felt that is where I was suppose to be. I loved being around students and staff. My responsibilities have revolved somewhat with Keota business manager Cherie Westendorf going to Pekin Community Schools.  I am responsible for registration collection, reconciling at the end of each month, paying the monthly bills, adding up hours for payroll, banking,  board materials and packets for the board meetings, taking minutes of the board meetings and general office duties.  I am also the Athletic Director secretary and speech coach,” Bennett said.

President Bill Kindred feels that Bennett is a great addition to the team.

“She has always been very involved with our school and I look forward in continuing to work with her as board secretary,” Kindred says.  For more on this story pick up this weeks Keota Eagle.
