Beinharts, Keota community makes huge splash for Ise's birthday

Craig and Jodie Beinhart knew their daughter Ise would have loved to taken her first swim for her birthday this year. Ise, who was diagnosed by doctors with a Mycobacterium Avian infection, hoped be able to join all her friends and family at the Keota Municipal Pool, splashing around in the cool waters on a pleasant summer day, just like any kid her age.

“Ise had never been able to go swimming because of her disease,” Craig Beinhart said. “We were hoping she would be cleared by the U of I Hospital to do so for her birthday, but some complications happened and she could not.”

Instead, the thankful Beinhart family decided to show their community appreciation for the support it has given to Ise over the past year by hosting a free swim at the pool on Wednesday, June 28. Family, friends and community members arrived over the course of the pleasant summer afternoon, some bringing gifts and all with well wishes for Ise as she continues to grow stronger.

“The afternoon went well,” Beinhart said. “A lot of kids came in the afternoon and we were there for half an hour in the evening. We were very pleased with the turn out, the kind words and prayers from everyone.”

Beinhart stated that Ise is in stable condition in the Intensive Pediatric Care Unit at the University of Iowa Hospital, requiring respiratory support. The family hopes to have Ise home in one to two months.
