Ball season 2018 underway

12U Softball Team to play Thursday, May 17 at 8:00 p.m.

Ball season is now upon us. As the weather is getting warmer, baseball and softball teams are gearing up for a fun season at Wilson Memorial Park, which has taken on quite a few projects and improvements this year.

The ball fields have seen projects such as updates to the concession stand and the restrooms, new gravel under and behind the bleachers on the visitor’s side. Don’t forget about the four new infield lights that were assembled and put in by Musco Lighting.

With all of the projects that have been completed, there is still more to get done to make the ball fields more enjoyable for the community and teams.

Improvements that are in the works for this summer are including tearing out and pouring new concrete in front of the cession stand and outside of the bathrooms, which is starting to buckle and angle in towards the building. The new concrete in these areas will go up to the backstop.

“We received a grant from the Keokuk County Community Endowment Foundation (KCCEF) for $3,500 to help with the cost of the concrete,” said Erin McGuire. “We are also hoping to figure out what is going on with the scoreboard as to why it is not working and get that fixed so it can be used again.”
